I am an instructional designer who believes everyone can excel if the right learning opportunities and resources are accessible.
It is my job to help learners connect the dots and develop confidence in their skills and abilities. I pride myself in being able to break down information so that it is straight to the point, easy to understand, and easy to retain. Particular areas of specialty include story-based learning, gamification, and microlearning.
In high school I desperately wanted to learn French, so I signed up for a yearlong study abroad program in France where I immersed myself in the French language and culture. I was amazed to realize that learning another language showed me a new world perspective. Wanting to learn an additional language, I chose to tackle Mandarin Chinese. Ultimately, this passion for languages and learning indirectly led me to instructional design.
After college, I received a scholarship to study Mandarin at a Taiwanese university from the Taiwanese government. While there, I encountered many opportunities to teach ESL to learners from age three to 65 and learned how to plan lessons and develop curricula. These experiences taught me how to build lessons that engaged learners of varying levels and learning styles.
When I returned to the U.S., I found an opportunity with a mortgage company where a former boss recognized in me potential as a corporate trainer and instructional designer. The company was eager to implement a program that would develop college graduates into full-fledged mortgage professionals and appointed me in charge of it. While in this role, I discovered a great passion for instructional design and e-learning development in particular. Wanting to hone my skills, I spend much of my free time improving on my design and instructional design skills to deliver learning content that exceeds expectations and promotes knowledge transfer.
